Nich Gannon
A native of North Georgia, Nich Gannon has made a name for himself as a freelance drummer/educator in Metro Atlanta.
Growing up in a musical family, Nich was first introduced to the drumset in 5th grade. His first kit was an old drumset his father found on the back porch of an abandoned house.
His earliest influence for the drums was when he heard Dennis Chambers on John McLaughlin's album, "The Heart of Things". In middle school, Nich played the trumpet and eventually transitioned to percussion by high school.
After high school, Nich went on to study percussion at Young Harris College. His first professor, Ted Wade (a student of Joe Morello and Buddy Rich) helped hone Nich's skills on drums and percussion. After that he continued to study with Eric Brown, as well as Stewart Gerber at Georgia State University.
After receiving his Bachelor's in Music, Gannon went on to Georgia State University to pursue his Master's in Jazz Studies. While at GSU, Nich became immersed in the Atlanta music scene, playing a wide range of styles from jazz to punk, pop and rock. During this time Nich studied under Justin Varnes. While at GSU, Nich had the opportunity to attend masterclasses and perform alongside many nationally renowned artists inlcuding Grammy Award Winning Trumpeter Randy Brecker(Brecker Brothers), Curtis Lundy(Betty Carter), Ignacio Berroa, Rene Marie, and many others.
As an educator, Nich is currently the Percussion Director at Denmark High School in Alpharetta, Ga. He also gives private lessons in his house in Atlanta.
As a performer, Nich has had a range of opportunities. During his undergrad, Nich marched with the DCA circuit with Atlanta CV, under the direction of Chris Romanowski(Co-Designer of the Heavy Hitter Pads). He has also participated in All-College Band, GSU Jazz Band, GSU Orchestra, YHC Pit Orchestra, and GSU Percussion Ensemble. Nich is currently holding the chair for local rock band The Ides of June. He has also been featured on Goodmorning America with Deb Bowman and the Big Love Band.
Nich has also built a recording studio inside his home to remotely track drums for clients, as well as provide mixing and editing services for local artists. For more info about rates and booking, please use the Contact link below.
